The Magic of Muslin: Why We Love the Fabric and How to Keep it Fluffy Forever

Perhaps you know the feeling: you wrap yourself in a cozy muslin blanket and would prefer not to move all day. The airy, double-woven fabric is a true all-rounder – it warms in winter, cools in summer, and brings that incomparably casual "crinkle look" into your home. To ensure that your handcrafted treasures from our studio remain as wonderfully soft as on the first day, even after many washes, we have summarized our best care tips for you.

1. What makes muslin so special?

The name originally comes from the city of Mosul (in present-day Iraq), but today the fabric is indispensable in modern cozy homes. Due to the special weaving technique, two layers are sporadically placed on top of each other. This makes it extremely breathable, absorbent, and gives it its characteristic, wavy structure.

2. The right wash: Less is more

  • The temperature: It's best to wash your muslin favorites at 30 °C to a maximum of 40 °C. This protects the fibers and the colors of your handmade unique piece.

  • The detergent: Use a mild liquid detergent. Powder detergent can sometimes settle in the fine interstices and make the fabric stiffer.

  • The trick without fabric softener: It's better to avoid fabric softener. It forms a film around the fibers and reduces the fabric's natural absorbency.

3. Drying and the perfect "crinkle effect"

Here's where opinions differ: air dry or tumble dry?

  • Air drying: If you hang your blanket smoothly, it will become a bit flatter.

  • In the dryer: A short run in a gentle tumble dryer at low temperature makes the fabric extremely fluffy and perfectly brings back the beloved crinkle look.

  • Do not iron! That would flatten the beautiful structure. Muslin loves its wrinkles – and so do we.

Conclusion: Muslin is uncomplicated, durable, and only gets more beautiful and softer with every wash. Feel free to visit our shop and find your new, custom-made favorite item!
