In the product images in our shop, you see the finished result: the perfectly draped fabric, the flawlessly white plaster figure, the gently burning light. But the path to get there is a journey full of patience, precision, and – quite frankly – sometimes dusty hands! Today, we want to open the workshop door wide for you and take you to the place where the magic happens: our creative studio.
1. The Birth of a Plaster Figure: Patience in Detail
It all begins with an idea and the finest, high-purity plaster of Paris. Mixing requires the perfect ratio of powder to water so that the material later becomes extremely stable and silky smooth.
-
When pouring into molds, speed is essential to avoid air bubbles.
-
After that, it's time to wait. Plaster works; it gets warm as it dries and needs its time.
-
After careful demolding, each piece is hand-sanded, refined, and – in the case of our sculptures – gently filled with high-quality candle wax. Every tiny pore in the plaster tells the story of this process.
2. At the Sewing Machine: Where Fabrics Come to Life
In the heart of Crailsheim, you'll find the tailoring shop. There, sewing machines hum with rhythm and precision. When we cut our custom-made muslin pieces, we pay meticulous attention to the grain. Due to its elastic crinkle structure, muslin is a lively fabric that requires a delicate touch under the needle. Every seam is double-secured to ensure that your blanket or cloth remains absolutely dimensionally stable even after years of use and countless washes.
3. Why We Love This Effort
Yes, automated factory production would be faster. Cheaper. But it would have no personality. For us, every step in the studio is a piece of lived mindfulness. While we prepare your order, we are completely in the moment. And this feeling of calm and focus travels with every package to your home.
Conclusion: When you hold a product from Zweig & Faden in your hands, you are also always holding a few hours of our lifetime, our passion, and our craftsmanship. Thank you for being a part of this journey!
